Angharad Thomas - Bassoon

Picture
Angharad Thomas is from Cardiff where she began studying the bassoon under the tutelage of Robert Codd. For four years, from the age of eleven, Angharad was a bassoonist with the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain, touring extensively in the UK as well as China, where she performed in the Beijing Music Festival. In 2011 she was awarded her ABRSM Diploma with distinction. For the last six years, the last three of which as principal bassoonist, she has played with the National Youth Orchestra of Wales under the baton of Owain Arwel Hughes, Carlo Rizzi and Jac van Steen. As an undergraduate, she held both academic and instrumental scholarships at New College, Oxford. She graduated from the University of Oxford in the summer of 2014 where she was awarded a degree in Music with first class honours. Returning to New College this year, Angharad has just completed her Masters in Music with distinction. She regularly travels to London where she studies bassoon under John Orford at the Royal Academy of Music. In September Angharad will take up her place at the Royal Academy of Music to study for an MA in performance.
